Tara Cavanaugh has been a counselor in several settings since 2009. Tara received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Southern Methodist University.
Tara specializes in treating adults and teens with complex trauma and PTSD, especially those who have experienced sexual or emotional abuse. Also, Tara specializes in treating anxiety disorders, depression, grief and loss, mood disorders, eating disorders, OCD, and addiction. Tara utilizes Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, and Person-Centered therapy styles depending on her client’s need. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is effective in treating any anxiety-based disorder, including PTSD. She has received additional education specifically treating attachment disorders (attachment-focused EMDR), dissociative disorders, and addiction with EMDR.
She has extensive experience with relationship counseling, and is Gottman Method trained. She enjoys helping individuals learn to communicate, restore their connection within their relationship, increase intimacy, and foster a heightened sense of understanding and empathy within the context of the relationship.
Additionally, she is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, providing supervision to newly licensed clinicians.
